Chris' favourite books!

Ever since I learned to read, I’ve been a voracious reader. I didn’t consume books, they consumed me. They swallowed me whole, and spit me out at the end, feeling like I’d been through a hurricane of emotions. The pavement is probably worn thin between my childhood home and the town library from how many times I walked back and forth. I couldn’t get enough. I still can’t. I can’t keep up with how fast I go through books. I’d be broke if I bought them all new. Even someone who consumes at least two books a week has favourites though. Below are five of mine.

My first ever favourite book was The Paperbag Princess by Robert Munsch. I had a copy of it that wasn’t much larger than a soda cracker. I was first fascinated by the size of that book. That’s what drew me in. It fit so well in my little hands. Once I read it, I couldn’t get enough. I wanted to be Princess Elizabeth with every fiber of my being. She was an amazing, badass role model, before I even knew I wanted or needed one in my life. I highly suggest getting this for any young children in your life. It can be life changing.

Charlotte’s Web was another childhood favourite that I’ve never grown out of. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve read the tale of Wilbur and friends. You can never be too old to be mesmerized by the wonder of “some pig”, and the amazing spider behind him. Your heart with grow bigger than Templeton the rats belly from reading about the love and hard work that goes into making Wilbur shine.

I first read Crabbe in the5th or 6th grade. It was the first “adult” book that I read. I remember being scandalized by some of the content, but also so excited to be reading something so grown up. I know a  lot of people who read it as assigned reading in high school and hated it, but I like to think that it’s because they were forced to read it. It’s an awesome tale of self preservation and coming of age that I think everyone should read at least once. It also gets bonus points for the fact that it takes place primarily in Algonquin Park, somewhere where I’ve actually been multiple times.

Just Listen was the book that first introduced me to one of my favourite authors, Sarah Dessen. I remember being intrigued by the cover, the torso of a girl holding an MP3 player. I finished all 400 pages in a day and a half. I could not get enough. I quickly devoured everything she had written before, and have kept up with everything she’s written since, and I love it all. She’s amazing at heavy topics, deftly broaching subjects such as abuse, eating disorders, and death, making you feel like it’s your best friend talking to you about it. It’s exactly what I needed at 16, and I’ll always be down to see what she writes next. This one will always be closest to my heart though.

Lastly for my top 5 is Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. I first heard about Rainbow during the hype surrounding Eleanor & Park, but this is the book that sold me on her. It could not be cuter. Lincoln is possibly my favourite literary romantic lead of all time, along with being all around one of my favourite characters. I want to live in the world of this book forever and always.

I hope you enjoyed reading about some of my favourites. I love talking about books, so let me know some of your favourites in the comments!

A Little Sephora Haul

If you're a fellow makeup lover, you will know that Sephora recently had their VIB sale. Naturally, I had to buy something - you can't let a chance like this go to waste! I thought it would be fun to share with you guys the few things that I bought (I love seeing people's beauty purchases!) and give a little first impressions review while we're at it. Enjoy!

Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Translucent.

This was actually the only item I needed. If you haven't tried this powder, I highly recommend it. It finishes off your makeup beautifully and helps you achieve that flawless look we all want. I love to use this to set my under eye concealer - it completely prevents creasing and looks amazing! It's also really good to use for baking.

Too Faced Prismatic Highlighter in Blinded by the Light.

I have had my eyes on this highlighter since it came out! It's a beautiful champagne colour. It looks quite natural (still very pigmented!), but it seems like you can really build it up.

Above, is what the highlighter looks like when swatched. It's a little bit hard to see in the photo, but take my word that it's beautiful.

 Colour Pop Semi Precious Palette.

I was really excited to hear that Sephora was going to start carrying ColourPop. I've heard such good things about their products. Good payoff and an affordable price? Hell yes! This palette is beautiful and I'm really excited to play around with it. The shadows seem to be quite pigmented and easily blendable. I kind of wish that this palette had a jewel green - I think it would've completed it. The red shade (3rd down in photo) is the one that got me really excited!

Here are swatches of the shadows with no primer used.
Left image, top to bottom: Celestial, Beam Me Up, Easy Go, Up & Atom.
Right image, top to bottom: West Star, Bashful, Upon a Star, The Game.

Tarte Tarteist Lip Wardrobe Volume II in Rosé and Fomo.

Even though I have a whole drawer of lipstick, I can never get enough! I guess my "compromise" was to get this cute pack of mini liquid lipsticks. The colours are beautiful and the payoff is amazing. They dry down to a nice matte - the darker one feels a bit thicker and even more matte (maybe it's just mine?). They feel nice on the lips, but I can't comment on how'd they be throughout the day. I think they would have decent wear time - they were stubborn and didn't want to come off!

Sorry for the bad swatch, but here are the lipsticks swatched. I like the set comes with a nude colour and something a bit more intense. These lipsticks are perfect for Autumn and Winter!

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black.

Lastly, I got this roller ball perfume. I love roller balls because they're easy to throw into your bag and carry around. It smells delicious. It's a warm, sexy smell that has notes of violet, sandalwood and vanilla - which makes it the perfect scent for winter!

So there you have it! I was pretty good and didn't go too crazy :) Keep your eyes peeled for these items in future posts!
Did you purchase anything during the sale? Have you tried any of these items? If so, let me know in the comments below.

Until next time,

How to keep your sense of style at the office

When I started working at an office last year, I had no clue how to dress. I came from Walmart, a world of blue polyester vests and black pants and t-shirts. I was completely out of touch with how to dress for an office, so I went too far with it. I dressed fancier than was called for, and completely lost touch with myself and how I actually wanted to dress.

Slowly, I found a balance between what was appropriate for work and what I felt comfortable in, making use of sales racks all over the city, and it's been working pretty great for me. I finally feel like myself when I head into work every day! Below is a look at some of my favourite work outfits!

On Mondays, I want nothing more than to be comfortable while slogging through the work that awaits me, and nothing is better for that than a snuggly sweater and stretchy dress pants. My favourite part about this sweater though, is the pattern. It's cute and funky, and shows everyone that I'm not afraid to dress out of the norm. Pair it with a massive bag full of all your work day essentials and you're good to go!

Tuesdays are perfect for a cute shirt dress with a flannel shirt over top. The flannel is actually a men's one from West 49, but you'd never know! My favourite thing to pair it with is my leopard print flats. I routinely work 9.5 hours a day, so as I said for Monday, comfort is always key. Anything without a waistline is a winner! The adorable colour is just a bonus.

On Wednesdays, I like to go for something a little more professional. Dressing professionally helps me feel motivated to work during the midweek slump. A classic stripped top in white and navy is perfect for that, along with cropped pants. Chunky black platforms help inject some fun! I wouldn't be myself if I didn't wear something quirky with every outfit!

Thursdays for me are all about just getting through, which is why this sweater, that is basically a blanket, is perfect. This is also one of my favourite dresses, with a cute flowery pattern, and it's made of super stretchy fabric. It's fun and perfect for getting through the back half of the week!

Fridays are my favourite. We don't really have a lot of rules, clothing wise on Fridays, so as long as there's nothing vulgar written on your top, your shoulders are covered, and you're not wearing leggings, you're pretty much good to go. My end of week go to is a graphic top and jeans, paired with sneakers. It gives me a chance to show off my personal style while not going too crazy, and being super comfortable!

I hope I've managed to give some helpful work style inspiration to anyone struggling with what to wear, or needs to mix their style up! Some of my favourite places to shop for work are Forever 21, Old Navy, The Gap and H&M. Let me know in the comments where your work fashion go to is, and I'll check them out!

Guilty Pleasure TV Shows - Teen Drama Edition

I'm not afraid to admit that I love sitting in my PJs with a nice glass of wine and binge watching various teen dramas.
I guess you could kind of say that they're a guilty pleasure of mine. As a 24 year old adult, I could probably find something more productive to do with my time, but no thanks. I like shipping two of my favourite characters together. Wondering who the hell Gossip Girl is; is Ryan going to stay with the Cohens? Ugh. I love it. Investing my emotions into fake drama instead of worrying about my own life. It's so good.

Without further a do, here are some of my favourite teen dramas to indulge in.

THE OC

The OC will forever be my favourite teen drama show and one of my favourite shows of all time.
I can't even say why I love it so much. I think it's the characters. I love Seth's sarcasm and Sandy's bushy brows. I ship Ryan/Marissa and Summer/Seth until the end! I don't think I can count how many times I've seen this show - at least every year I need to re watch it. I like pretend that the fourth season doesn't exist though. Spoiler alert: Marissa can't be dead. Also, Taylor Townsend and Ryan?!?! NOPE.

RIVERDALE

Much like everyone else, I've joined the Riverdale hype. It is a very far cry from the comic books that the characters are based on, however, it is a good show. Ships? Bughead and Varchie? Archonica? Whatever.
I liked the first season with the whole Jason mystery. I don't love this Black Hood story line as much, but I'm hoping it will prove me wrong.

GOSSIP GIRL

I have a weird hate/love relationship with GG. I kept watching it because I started and I really wanted to know who GG was. I loved Blair and Serena and their lives. I liked Chuck Bass and seeing him turn into a semi decent person. Dan was just Dan. And I hated Jenny. I always shipped Chair and Sate? Narena? I need to work on my ship names. SPOILER ALERT: I will never ever ever like the fact that they made Dan Gossip Girl. It literally makes ZERO sense.

GILMORE GIRLS

I'm currently watching Gilmore Girls and loving it! I know it's not your typical teenage drama, but Rory is a teen and there is drama. So there. I like the dynamic between Rory and Lorelai. I wish I was that close with my mom. If I'm ever a mom, I want to have a close relationship with my daughter. Maybe not quite as intense as theirs though. I also like that this show isn't as heavy as some other dramas I've listed. It's a bit more light and easier (for lack of a better word) to watch. Now, this is my first time watching it. I know, alarming. But I can tell that I already love it. Hence why it's on this list.

I've also never seen One Tree Hill (gasp!) I know, I know, have I been living under a rock?! Nope. Just very invested in The OC that I never got around to OTH. Maybe I'll make that my next teen drama to watch.

What are some of your favourite teen dramas? Comment and let me know who are your favourite ships?
Remember to click on the ♥ at the top right corner of the blog - that way you can give us a follow on BlogLovin'.

I'm going back to binge watching Gilmore Girls now (what else do you do when you've had the flu for over a week?!).

Talk to you soon!

You know you love me,

xoxo

Boss Lady Beauty Agenda review!

Oh Too Faced. I can never get enough of you! I've never really been one to be fussy about my makeup packaging. If it works for me, I'm happy. But something about the adorable packaging of Too Faced makeup draws me in every time. I'm a huge lover of their eye shadow palettes, with the Chocolate Bar, Natural Love and Sweet Peach palette, amongst others in my collection, and this one makes 6. I'm keeping this for myself, but it would also make any amazing Christmas present for anyone that loves girly makeup, which is why I'm going to review it for you today.

First, the packaging.

The packaging for this product could not be cuter. I love the shade of pink they used, and the tassel and heart mirror are adorable. Plus, "Don't let today be a waste of makeup" is totally my new motto.

Next, we have the actual products.

As detailed in the photo of the front of the pallet, the product comes with a mini Better Than Sex mascara, which is a personal favourite, and a mini, but still pretty big Melted Matte lipstick in Sell Out. The pallet itself comes with 24 shadows, my four favourite of which I've swatched below, and a highlighter, blush, and their famous Chocolate Soleil bronzer, which I love for contouring.

(L-R - Slay Bells, Plum Pudding, Love Actually, Jolly)

The agenda is so cute as well! It comes with two pages of adorable stickers, a makeup look for every month, two pages per month of space (one drawback would have to be how small the spaces are), and a notepad like space at the back. If you have a heavy agenda that requires a lot of space, this may not be the best option for you, but if you're just looking to schedule date nights and doctors appointments, this will be great!

All in all, I'd say this is a great bargain for all the product you're getting, at $72 Canadian, for what they say is $416 Canadian worth of product, or $58 American, for $336 worth of product. It's perfect for any makeup lover with plans to keep track of. I hope anyone that gets it loves it as much as I do! (Note that this is a Sephora exclusive).

Welcome to the Book Club

I love to read. I always have and probably always will.
I love reading a book and immersing myself into a different world. It’s beautiful. It’s captivating. It’s magical.
I read when I’m bored, I read when to destress, I read to block out the annoying people on the bus and just to pass time. I read a lot. And it's a perfect to spend a chilly Autumn day curled up with a book - and a hot cup of tea :)I thought it would be fun to start this little “reading club” of sorts and just talk about books I’ve read or want to read.
Today I’m going to talk about some of my favourite books, as well as briefly touch upon the books I’ve read recently.

HARRY POTTER
My one true love. You may not know this about me, but I am a HUGE Potterhead. Harry Potter is my number one and will be forever. I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve read this series. Even though I know very well what happens, it never ceases to gain my interest and amaze me. Every time, I get suckered into the magic. I don’t know if I could pick a favourite book out of the series. My least favourite might be the first and second book; purely because the story line really develops and is much more intense afterwards. I really do love them all though! Ps. I’m a Ravenclaw Pps. Expect more HP content in the future ;)

THE INFERNAL DEVICES

This trilogy is a prequel to the Mortal Instruments series. I love the whole Shadow Hunter world and I’ve read all the books – from all the different series in there. However, TID just seems to be my favourite. It takes place in early London and I just really like the characters. I think they have more depth and dimension to them than Clary and Jace. The dynamic of the main trio is very intriguing and the books are page turners. It really captivates your attention.

CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC
I love Sophie Kinsella. I think she creates really fun characters and stories. This series (and her other books) are my go to novels for when I want something light to read. You don’t need to think too much and the story lines are easy going and not too intense. The characters are quirky and relatable and will make you laugh along with them. These books are a perfect comedy with some heart felt moments. I personally thing her books are underrated. Another one of my favourites from her is, I’ve Got Your Number.

THE LOVERS DICTIONARY
This book is a piece of art. Although it barely takes a day to read because it’s so short – it is beautifully written. It’s fluid and makes me think of poetry. The story does not offer tons of details, but it still manages to be captivating. It’s raw and it’s real.

I've recently read:

Witch Fire (first book) and Witch Storm (the second) from a series called The Banned and Banished. I believe there are 5 books in the series. They were recommended to me from a lady at work. She gave me the first 2 novels to read and I'm waiting for the others to finish the series.
The series has almost every supernatural creature you can think of. It reminds me a bit of LOTR and HP mixed together. It took me a little bit to get into the story because the language is more sophisticated, I guess. Over all, it is a good read for any fantasy lover out there!
I just finished reading John Green's latest novel, Turtles all the Way Down.
I really enjoyed this book. I don't know if it's exactly on the same level as Looking for Alaska or TFIOS. It was good though. I liked how he described the characters anxiety and how it affected everyone in her life too. The plot wasn't something that captivated me and I wish we got into more depth with the other characters. As his other books, the characters did have some great lines that really make you think. I love what Davis would say about the sky. All in all, the book is definitely worth a read.

As of right now, I am almost finished reading Cocktails for Three by Madeleine Wickham (Sophie Kinsella).

If you're not familiar with her writing. Sophie Kinsella's more "mature" novels are written under the name Madeleine Wickham. This novel isn't bad. It's light with a touch of drama. I do tend to prefer her novels written under Sophie Kinsela because the books are more fun and the main characters are all same in the way that they're witty, stylish and a bit naive.
I would recommend this book if you enjoy that style of easy read novel. I can give more of an update once I'm finished it.

After this I'll be back off to Chapters to find some new books to read!
I would love for you guys to tell me what books you enjoy and give me some suggestions on what to read next.

Until next time,
